On the ground
Pitching a stretch tent in the Derwent valley.
Mill country on a fast river, so the good sites are the valley floor meadows and the mill grounds, with wooded slopes rising on both sides. Valley floor ground is soft, level and pegs beautifully. It also floods, so we check where the water goes before we pick a pitch, and we will move a canopy twenty metres to keep it off the low ground.
Two hours each way. The build is always the day before, never the morning of, and we want the access details and a photo of the ground up front, because a wasted trip at this distance costs a day.
