FAQs

Common questions

What is a stretch tent?

A tensioned canvas event tent, originally inspired by Bedouin shelter. Held up by lightweight aluminium poles and steel ground anchors, with no rigid frame. The fabric stretches across the poles to create a freeform sculptural shape, very different from the rectangular box of a traditional marquee. Sometimes called a stretch marquee, Bedouin tent, or freeform marquee.

Is a stretch marquee the same as a stretch tent?

Yes, two names for one thing. Stretch marquee, stretch tent, Bedouin tent and freeform marquee all describe tensioned canvas pulled over aluminium poles with no rigid frame. Ask us for a stretch marquee and you will get a stretch tent quote, because that is what it is.

How is a stretch tent different from a marquee?

A marquee is a rigid aluminium-frame box with vertical walls. A stretch tent has no frame, just tensioned canvas held up by aluminium poles and pegged at multiple anchor points. The result: stretch tents shape to your site (around trees, against buildings, on slopes) rather than forcing the site to fit the tent.

Can a stretch tent attach to a building or wrap around trees?

Yes, that's one of the biggest practical differences from a marquee. Because there's no rigid frame, we can anchor a stretch tent against an existing wall or building, wrap it around trees, or shape it to an irregular plot. Send a photo of your venue and we'll talk through the rigging options.

Stretch tent vs tipi vs sailcloth vs marquee, what's the difference?

Marquees: rigid frame, rectangular, indoor feel. Tipis: pole-and-canvas cones, distinctive triangular peaks, fixed footprint. Sailcloth: looks like stretch from a distance but has a heavier centre-pole structure. Stretch: tensioned freeform canvas, sculptural shape, the most flexible to site. Each has its place; we hire stretch.

Can stretch tents go on uneven ground?

Yes. The tensioned canvas + ground-anchored design adapts to undulating ground better than a marquee. We can add Dandy Dura matting. Send photos so we can check the ground and flooring needs.

Are stretch tents waterproof and wind-resistant?

Our stretch tents have waterproof canvas and are designed to resist wind. We check the ground, exposure and forecast, and follow the manufacturer’s limits for each setup. Severe weather may mean changing the plans or taking the tent down.

Do you provide furniture, tables, chairs?

Trestle tables and bench seating come from us, sets that seat 8 to 10, delivered and set up with the tent, along with the flooring, lighting and heating. For chairs, lounge furniture and styling we'll put you on to suppliers we've worked alongside and would use ourselves.

How far in advance should I book?

Summer Saturdays book up fast. For a wedding or festival 6-18 months out is normal. Smaller events 1-3 months is usually fine.

Planning the drinks?

Use our free wedding and party drinks calculator to work out bottles, cans and alcohol-free options, then save a shopping list.
